Otto Addo says final bye bye to Dortmund, Arrives in Ghana to take full charge of Black Stars

Black Stars coach Otto Addo has said his final good bye to Borussia Dortmund, a club he spent 5 years as talent coach to begin a 3 year contract as the head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana

The former Ghana Stars midfielder who has spent several years in the German Football ecosystem is finally home to manage his Native National team.

Addo started his coaching career with his former club Hamburger SV in 2009, in the process serving as a youth team coach and an assistant manager till 2015.

In April 2019, it was announced that Addo would work for former club Borussia Dortmund as a ‘talent coach’, having previously held a similar role at Borussia Mönchengladbach

Otto Addo will arrive in Accra on Monday, May 27, 2024 to take charge of the team on full time basis.

The former Ghana midfielder who took over from Chris Hughton in March has signed a long term deal after receiving the nod as the new coach of the team following a rigorous recruitment exercise in March. Otto will take charge of Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic on Thursday, June 6 and Monday June 10, 2024 respectively.

Ghana will open camp on Thursday, May 30, 2020 in readiness for the two games. The Black Stars are 4th in Group I with 3 points after one win and one loss in the first two matches.

On 15 March 2024, he was reappointed as head coach of the Ghana national football team
