The Ministry of Youth and Sports has admitted that the Black Stars were poor prior to the commencement of the Africa cup of Nations in Cote D’ Ivoire, but only persisted in hope.
A statement released by the public affairs department of the ministry said despite the indications that the team was in poor shape, many Ghanaians persisted on hope.
The Ministry maintains that Monday January 22 stands as a solemn, and sad chapter in the history of Ghana Football, as the Black Stars crashed out of its 24th AFCON tournament without progressing to the knockout stage
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports profoundly shares the disappointment and devastation echoing through the hearts of millions of Ghanaians and followers of Ghana Football both home and abroad” the statement
The Ministry further maintains it did everything possible to ensure the team succeeded at the tournament including all the financial resources the team needed for the competition “Over the years, the Ministry, especially under the administration of the current Government wholeheartedly supported our national teams, the Black stars in particular, we created a conducive and enabling enabling environment, invested in the development of the team and introduced a performance-based reward systems”
The Black Stars suffered their second successive elimination from the Africa Cup of Nation without winning single game.
The team lost their opening match of the ongoing AFCON tournament to Cape Verde before drawing 2 all to Egypt and Mozambique.
The GFA subsequently fire Head coach Chris Hughton, and dissolved the Technical team
