Black Stars of Ghana record lowest FIFA rankings in two decades per latest April release

The Black Stars of Ghana experienced their worst FIFA Ranking since February 2005 when the team was ranked 79th in the World after some poor run of games in 2004 when the team failed to qualify for the Africa cup of Nations in Tunisia.

Again the Black Stars following series of poor results in the 2023 AFCON,  and some other friendly matches played in March 2024 where there lost and drew with Nigeria and Uganda respectively have moved a place lower to 68th position from the previous 67th.

The Black Stars are also ranked 14th in the list of Africa countries and remain outside the top performing national teams from Africa for the second time in 2024.

The Ghana Senior National team was the best team in Africa in 2008, when the team was ranked 14th in the Global Rankings, and number 1 in Africa.

The 4 times Africa champions experienced their worst ever ranking in June 2004 in 89th position on the world ranking, that same year, the team made some significant improvement moving 18 places in July with 70th position ranking.

Despite the Black Stars bad ranking in February 2005, the team made some dramatic moves with some impressive results in the 2006 World cup qualifiers by finishing 50th in the FIFA ranking, a position that earned them the  FIFA Best Mover Award in 2005.

Since 2005, the Black stars have occupied a respectable position of remaining in the top 50 ranked teams including being ranked 16th in July 2010, 15th in October 2011 and 19th in February 2013.

The Black Stars also finished 2023 having been ranked 61st position in the World, making it the team’s worst end of year Ranking  since 2004 when they ended the year on the 77th position.
