Data – Ghana to reclaim lost spot in CAF Inter Club competitions with Confederations cup Dream win

Ghana could reclaim its lost spot in the CAF interclub competition for the 2024-25 season with the inclusion of 2 more teams to the various competitions, in effect, Ghana will have the opportunity to field 2 clubs each for the CAF Champions League, and the CAF Confederation cup.

With the CAF 5-year ranking, Ghana will overtake  rivals Nigeria in the Ranking of the top 12 countries in the continent.

Beginning the 2023-24 season, Ghana was placed on the 27th position with 1 point the country accumulated from the 201-19 competition which saw Asante Kotoko reach the group stage of the confederation cup.

But the the performance of Medeama SC, and Dreams FC in the ongoing competition, the West African giants could bounce back to the top 12 with an accumulated 30 points.

Base on the 2024-25 projections, Ghana have now risen to the 14th position with a projected 20 points, by virtue of their Group stage finish in the CAF Champions League, Medeama SC have secured 1 point which is calculated into a co-efficient of 5, while Dreams FC has already won 3 points into a co-efficient of 15.

At the moment, Ghana is behind Guinea 20.5 points (13th) and Nigeria 25 points (12th) position, while both countries have had their respective clubs eliminated from the 2023-24 CAF competitions, Ghana becomes the only country with the chance to over take both countries to secure the 12th position.

If Dreams FC wins the CAF Confederation cup, they are guaranteed 5 points as champions with a co-efficient score of 25, this will give Ghana 30 points for the 2024-25 interclub competition having already secured 5 points from Medeama SC group stage finish.

Ivory Coast currently occupy the 11th Position with 30.5 points, and are sure to maintain same position going into next year’s championship.

The CAF 5-year ranking system is used by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) to determine the number of clubs that each member association may enter its club football competitions; the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup. At present, those associations ranked in the top 12 may enter two teams into each of the two club competitions, while the remaining associations are limited to a single team in each competition.
