Olympic Games qualifier – Ghana Athletics Association knocks the bottom out of 4×100 Relay Financial stress claim

The Ghana Athletics Association has denied media comments relating to the lack of funding for the Men’s 4×100 relay team that qualified for the Olympic games in Bahamas.

A statement released by the Association insist the Government of Ghana through the ministry of Youth and Sports financed the entire journey to the Bahamas including the teams’s representation at the Penn Relays in the United States of America.

‘In response to social media speculation, GA emphasizes that neither athletes nor officials self-financed their
representation of Ghana at the Penn Relays and World Relays.’

The Ghana Athletics further maintained that in preparation for the two championship, the Ministry of Youth and Sports financed the entire programme to ensure the team had the needed resourced to enable the team’s participation and qualification

‘In preparation for the 2024 World Relays, MOYS financed the relay team’s participation in the 2024 Penn Relays in the United States of America and
further facilitated funding for their critical journey to the 2024 World Relays.’

News in the Media after the 4×100 Relay team qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris suggested the members of the team self financed their trip to the Bahamas, and the USA, prompting public outrage an backlash on the ministry and the Ghana Athletics
