Chainman and majority shareholder of Accra Hearts of Oak Togbe Afede says the Pobiman complex when completed will become Africa’ biggest Sports Academy project.
Speaking at the club’s 6th Annual General Meeting of shareholders, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli state, whose Strategic Investment limited hold the majority shares of the club said the first phase of the project if 80% completed.
“As we all are aware, the club is undertaking one of the biggest sports academy projects in Africa at Pobiman. The first phase is about 80% complete” he told the shareholders and other members of the general public who attended the event
Breaking down the details of the project, Togbe Afede said “this first phase of the Hearts Africa Sports Academy comprises the following: executive apartments; dormitories; administrative, infirmary and classroom block; kitchen and dining block; gym, laundry and changing/shower block; four (4) football pitches; tennis, basketball and volleyball courts; swimming facilities; and 18-hole mini golf course. More than GH₵22 million has been invested as at the end of 2023′.
Togbe Afede further gave details of the second phase of the project “The second phase which we plan to commence this year will see the addition of an 80-room hotel, additional changing/shower facilities, and the provision of stands to complete the 5,000-6,000-capacity mini stadium.
Togbe Afede gave updated the shareholders on the club’s secretariat and the investment the board plans to put into making the clubs a worthy one to behold “Also, the club’s old secretariat known as “Phobia House” was pulled down in May 2022 to make way for a modern headquarters building. This structure is also about 95% complete as at the time of this report, with about GH₵9 million invested so far. Part of this ultra-modern edifice will be leased out to help generate revenue.”
“To ensure that the club’s operations were not affected by the demolition of its secretariat, and in line with the board’s vision of owning a separate building solely for its commercial activities, a two-story building near the secretariat was acquired and renovated by the club through loans from Strategic Initiatives Ltd (SIL). This building is currently being used as the club’s temporary headquarters”. He added
